Voodoo Doughnut

While in Denver our family highly recommended we stop by Voodoo Doughnut to try out some of their loaded, over-the-top doughnuts. So we made it a point to drop in, and we were definitely impressed with their selection.

There are eleven Voodoo Doughnut locations around the country but only two in the Denver area. We ended up going to the location in south Denver on Broadway.

We also have to make special mention to the amazing Mandalorian mural on the wall across the street. Hopefully it’ll stay there for a long time.

Once inside we had the daunting task of figuring out what to order. Fortunately flanking both of the registers is a multi-tiered carousel of sweet doughnut majesty to help us see which ones we would want. We knew they had some crazy varieties, but we weren’t expecting them to have so many toppings on them. Being able to easily see them was quite helpful.

We had other food plans for the day, so we didn’t want to get too many doughnuts. We ended up picking four: the Raspberry Romeo, Butterfingering, Old Dirty Bastard, and the Bacon Maple Bar. The doughnuts all came in a vibrant pink box.

The Raspberry Romeo is a glazed doughnut filled with raspberry jelly that is not too sweet, a little tart, seedy, and really good. The Butterfingering is a moist chocolate cake donut covered in frosting and crumbled up butterfinger. It’s delicious, and the best part was the butterfinger crumble. The Old Dirty Bastard is a standard yeast donut topped with crumbled oreos and drizzled with peanut butter. It’s messy, and the combination of oreos and peanut butter tastes great. The Bacon Maple Bar is a normal maple long John with two strips of bacon on top. As expected, the maple pairs extremely well with the bacon. The bacon is cooked well and isn't too crispy. It might be one of the less adventurous doughnuts available, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t amazing.

Voodoo Doughnut makes some fantastic doughnuts, and we will definitely return the next time we’re nearby. With so many delicious-looking doughnuts we’ll make sure to have plenty of room so we get even more and try out as many as we can.
