Seirinkan

After having watched an episode of Ugly Delicious on Netflix about pizza, we decided we should check out Seirinkan while in Tokyo. During our time exploring southern Tokyo we planned to make sure we ate here. Pizza wasn't something we had thought of even eating in Japan, but we're definitely glad we did.

We arrived for lunch and had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself is a narrow three-story building with an industrial-like facade and interior design. Once it was our turn to be seated, we climbed up to the third floor via a spiral staircase.

The menu at Seirinkan is simple. There's a few appetizers, pasta dishes, and two pizzas. A small menu works well if you do it well. We both orders the margherita pizza since we each wanted the one with cheese on it. Our pizzas came out handmade and irregularly shaped.

We've had great pizza before, but this one was easily the best we've had. We were just as surprised to find the best pizza we've ever had in Tokyo, but with the way the Japanese strive to create amazing food, it makes sense. The pizza is made with simple, fresh ingredients, but where it really shined and what set it above all others was the crust. The crust was buttery and slightly salted, and when combined with the sauce, cheese, and basil created the best pizza we've ever had. This is a great example of simple executed perfectly.
