Sheridan House Inn

For our time in Williams we stayed at the charming Sheridan House Inn. This bed and breakfast is nestled in the hillside on the edge of Williams and is surrounded by pine trees. It’s meant to be a romantic couples escape, so rooms are limited to 2 guests and no one under 16 is allowed to stay.

Getting to the Sheridan House Inn is a relatively easy drive down Interstate 40 where one of the three exits for Williams can be taken. The inn is located south of Route 66 in the residential area of Williams. Just turn east on Sheridan Avenue and go all the way to the end of the street where the inn is located. Williams isn’t exactly close to anything, so it will take a bit of driving to get there. It’s a 40 minute drive from Flagstaff and can take up to 3 hours from the Phoenix area.

When we arrived we were let into the house by the owners, Mark and Debbie. The doors are always locked, but guests are given the passcode to get in. They talked to us for quite a bit about the house, our room, and what there is to do nearby. We were also introduced to the inn’s official greeter: Jesse James, the owner’s new dog. We were given our breakfast menu for the next day and shown how to properly make our selections. Throughout the stay Mark and Debbie were very friendly and happily chatted with us whenever we would see them. Their personal service and the suggestions they provided to our queries just made our stay even better.

We were staying in the Rosewood room, which is the most recently updated room and the most expensive one. It’s the most expensive mainly because there is a private patio with a hot tub. The room itself is large and cozy. The king size bed sits against the wall in the middle of the room with the fireplace and the TV on the wall across from it. There’s a comfy loveseat to the right of the bed. On the left of the bed is where the refrigerator and Keurig is located. Tea and coffee K-cups are refilled daily if any are used, as are the water bottles in the fridge. We were left a bottle of local wine as thanks for booking directly and staying multiple days. To the right of the TV is a desk with information for day trips. Next to the door for the bathroom is a large armoire to hang up clothes.

Just like the room, the bathroom is very large. It could easily be the size of a small hotel room in itself. The walk-in shower is great. It reminds us of our shower at home with the two different showerheads that can both be on at the same time. Plenty of soap, lotion, shampoo, and bodywash is provided. In the corner next to the patio door is a vanity.

The private patio is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the quiet of the surrounding forest. There’s a small loveseat and a coffee table for lounging. Next to the wall is the dining table where we ate most of our breakfast meals. The hot tub is free to use at any time of the day. We particularly liked hopping in at night and just staring up at the stars. On the vanity in the bathroom there are also some fragrant oils that can be added to the hot tub if desired. Just behind the hot tub there’s also a hummingbird feeder that gets sporadic visitors.

Each day after the room has been tidied up, the breakfast menu and a few chocolates are placed on the bed for us. The breakfast at the Sheridan House Inn just blew us away, and since we stayed 4 nights and had 4 breakfasts we will be focusing on it entirely in a separate post.

The common areas of the Sheridan House Inn are quite large. At the small bar-like area are menus for many recommended restaurants in town. There’s plenty of seating both inside and on the outdoor patio. The room with the couch is nice for lounging in, and here they have a good selection of DVDs for guests to watch. Our favorite area was sitting at the end of the patio where we could peacefully enjoy the weather and nearby nature.

There are many hummingbird feeders out there, and at certain times of the day the hummingbirds come in swarms. We saw roughly two dozen of them at once. We always thought hummingbirds were cute and rather peaceful, but that was mainly because we would normally only see a few at a time. These hummingbirds however, with their large numbers, get rather aggressive with each other as they knock each other away from the feeders. It was quite crazy to see.

The Sheridan House Inn is a wonderful place to stay at. The relatively quiet location in Williams is nice, surrounded by trees, and about 30 degrees cooler than in Phoenix. The personal service from Mark and Debbie really helps to set it apart from other places we’ve stayed at. Plus the food is outstanding. We can’t wait to plan another stay during a different part of the year and eat more of the food.
