The Budlong Hot Chicken

While visiting Denver, we stopped at The Budlong Hot Chicken, a Nashville Hot Chicken Joint for some tasty, spicy chicken sandwiches. Whether you get the sandwich, tenders, salad, hot chicken plate, or hot wings, the chicken is the star of the dish and the classic sides are made from scratch daily!

The Budlong Hot Chicken in south central Denver is located on Pennsylvania Street just a few blocks from the main street of Broadway. This neighborhood is rather dense, so finding a parking spot can be tough at times, but fortunately it shouldn’t take too long to walk to.

Upon entering we were met by a friendly greeter, who informed us that the heat level of the chicken is customizable. You can choose from naked, classic, hot, or x-hot. The classic level of heat was still pretty spicy, and choosing hot took it up a notch further! If you choose the naked option, you can avoid the heat in the chicken itself, but if you hate spiciness, be warned that the sauce on the sandwich is still spicy!

The chicken sandwich features a juicy, extremely crispy piece of extra thick chicken breast, which is smothered in their comeback sauce and layered with crunchy cabbage slaw and pickles. This all is cushioned between a thick, soft brioche bun. The slaw and pickles do a great job breaking through the spiciness and adding a nice freshness to the sandwich.

We chose the mac & cheese for a side, which was very creamy with light seasoning. Their other options for sides are collard greens, biscuit and jam, farmslaw, and french fries. Their dessert option is banana pudding.

The sandwiches we ordered at the Budlong Hot Chicken were great. When we visited it had been a while since we had some Nashville hot chicken, so it was nice to get a good sandwich again. Next time we’re in Denver we’ll make sure to drop by again and see what the rest of the menu is like.
