On our first evening visiting Ouray, Colorado, we needed to find somewhere to eat. After a recommendation from our family, we stopped for a delicious dinner at Brickhouse 737.

This restaurant is located at the north end of Main St in the center of town, a cozy brick building with a courtyard fenced in by a low brick wall and a wooden staircase leading up to the second story, which features a balcony with a few tables for outdoor seating.

When we arrived, the restaurant had no room inside but fortunately there was a table open on their balcony. From the balcony we were treated to a gorgeous view of Main St with the backdrop of nearby snowy mountains and cliffs that surround the small town. We could also see a lovely Art Nouveau mural on a building across the street. It even flurried a little while we ate dinner, but luckily we still weren’t too cold!

For drinks, Michelle got the sangria and Taylor got the Odell 90 Shilling Ale. The sangria was really deliciously fruity and citrusy.

Brickhouse 737’s website states that it works with local farms, dairies, and ranches in creating its menu. To start, we shared the charred tomato soup as well as the shrimp and pickled sweet corn fritters. The soup was very creamy and well-seasoned with a nice tartness. The croutons were a nice addition, and the surface of the soup was dotted with a fresh basil pistou. Meanwhile, the shrimp and pickled sweet corn fritters were lightly fried and lightly sweet from the corn and powdered sugar. The inside of each fritter was soft, and the thick spicy creole aioli with which it was served added a lot of flavor to each bite.

For dinner, Michelle chose the stuffed delicata squash. This dish may have been a special or seasonal item, as we do not see it on the current menu on their website. Fluffy quinoa was placed atop a split delicata squash over squash puree and seasoned yogurt, all topped with pomegranate seeds, cashews, cilantro, and roasted cauliflower. This dish had nice, earthy flavors accented with the pops of flavor from the juicy sweet pomegranate seeds and sweet squash.

Taylor had the 7 oz grilled angus filet, which was a dinner special. The perfectly cooked steak was settled on a celery puree and served with fingerling potatoes roasted in duck fat, broccolini, braised shallots, green garlic butter, and fried spinach. The steak was so tender and flavorful that Michelle didn’t even think that it needed sauce. Taylor thought the broccolini could have been cooked a little more, the soft shallots added sweetness, and the potatoes were seasoned well.

Finally, we ended this amazing dinner with their cast iron peanut butter cookie. This was a delicious, soft peanut butter cookie with chocolate gelato on top. It was not too big and a great end to a fantastic meal.

The meal we had at Brickhouse 737 was fantastic and the view from the balcony made our time there even better. This restaurant will definitely be on our list the next time we visit Ouray!
