The Local Donut

Michelle was talking about picking up some donuts from The Local Donut for a while, so we finally made the drive into Scottsdale to get some tasty treats.

The Local Donut is a small store in south Scottsdale and although walk ups and ordering is an option, it is best to place an order online to make sure you get everything you want. The place is rather popular and can get quite busy, especially on the weekends. Placing an order is pretty easy on their website, but must be done a day beforehand at a minimum. The location is on Hayden just north of Thomas in the southern end of Scottsdale.

Taylor took a few days off for home improvement projects, so on a Thursday he went to pick up the order we had made the day before. Even on a Thursday morning there was some walk-up traffic, so getting that online preorder is definitely preferred.

With it just being the two of us, we didn’t want to order too much. So we ended up picking some key donuts we wanted like the apple pie, peanut butter and jelly, chocolate nutter butter fluffer nutter, french cruller, and the creme brulee. We then added on the peach cobbler, strawberry mochi, and the sea salt and roasted sesame with caramel mochi donuts because they had too many great sounding options.

The donuts came in a nicely decorated box with the company’s logo on top.

We started with the strawberry mochi which was a chewy dough topped with a sweet and chewy strawberry coating. Next we had the sea salt and roasted sesame with caramel mochi donut. This donut had slightly dense and chewy dough. It was not too sweet, and the savory tang and crunch of the sesame seeds were great.

The apple pie donut was lightly glazed and topped with cinnamon crumbles. The middle was filled with large gooey baked apple slices. The peach cobbler was thick, moist, and cakey, lightly glazed, and covered with cinnamon crumbles. Just like the apple pie, the center was filled with a healthy amount of cooked peaches.

Taylor’s favorite donuts were the peanut butter and jelly and the chocolate nutter butter fluffer nutter. The peanut butter and jelly donut was nice and doughy, and covered in a chocolate glaze and drizzled with peanut butter. The center is filled with peanut butter and then a spoonful of strawberry jelly crowns the center. The chocolate nutter butter fluffer nutter (try and say that three times fast) is similar to the peanut butter and jelly but there's an additional nutter butter crumble on top. The center has a large amount of marshmallows as well. It's delicious and is probably the best donut in Taylor’s opinion.

Our final donuts were the French cruller and the creme brulee. The French cruller was light, airy, slightly chewy, and moist with a sweet sugar glaze. The creme brulee was a soft, glazed doughnut with thick custard in the middle. Torched sugar and a raspberry top off the custard.

We were very happy with what we got from The Local Donut. The donuts were just covered with many delicious toppings. They have a large selection that all sound amazing that it makes it hard to pick what to get without ordering almost everything. We’ll have to eventually try out each one.
