Sugarloaf and Teacup Trails

The Sugarloaf Loop and Teacup Trail offers an easy to moderate hike with some amazing views of the Sedona rocks and scenery. With its central location in Sedona and fantastic viewpoints of the surrounding rocks it’s a wonder why it’s not as popular.

Getting to the trailhead for both is an easy drive through a neighborhood and turn off into a little parking lot. This parking lot was full when we arrived that day, and we ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes for someone to leave so we could take their spot. If there aren’t any spots in the parking lot there is parking along the streets.

There are many interconnecting trails in this area, and we found the large sign at the trailhead very helpful before beginning our hike. It has a map and description of the nearby trails, including the trail lengths. There are also cute wooden signs showing the trails and their intersections along the way.

We followed the Teacup Trail until we came to a lovely vista with a great, close-up view of Coffee Pot Rock, where we stopped to take some nice pictures.

We continued on the Teacup Trail for a little while longer. Eventually the defined trails went away, but the trail became a little more difficult, requiring us to scramble up smooth rocks, so we turned back. Maybe we just went off path accidentally or maybe it just hit the end. We did get a great view though from what we did go down.

We found the intersection of the Teacup Trail with the Sugarloaf Loop. Then we followed that trail until we came to signs pointing up to Sugarloaf Summit. It’s a somewhat steep, though short, hike, and the 360 degree views at the top are incredible! It’s a nice spot to rest and take in the vistas.

All in all, it only took us an hour and half to hike this trail and stop to take some photos. It was a great way to get in some exercise while enjoying the beauty of Sedona, from the expansive views to the cacti on the trail.
