The Chai Spot

The Chai Spot is a sweet, gorgeous tea shop in Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village in Sedona. It’s a great place to enjoy some good tea while taking a break and just enjoying the beauty of the surrounding area. Although finding it can be a bit of a challenge due to the layout of Tlaquepaque.

Their website states that the Chai Spot is a “social enterprise dedicated to peace-building and to socio-economic empowerment of women and children in Pakistan.” It was founded by Khalida Brohi and her husband. Khalida grew up in Pakistan and, since she was a teenager, has worked to support and empower the women of her country. She has given a TED Talk about her experiences, written a book called I Should Have Honor, and helped found the Sughar Foundation. The Chai Spot is a place where East and West can meet and find out they have more in common than they think.

Both locations of the Chai Spot - one in Sedona and one in Manhattan - feature beautiful goods from a dozen villages in the Sindh and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan. Before or after guests buy their tea, they can browse through these items.

The Chai Spot in Sedona has a lovely, airy front porch where patrons can relax on piles of pillows, drink their tea, read, study, talk, or play one of the many provided board games. There is also some indoor seating.

For our drinks, we chose the Coconut Rose Chai and the Sulaimani Chai. The Coconut Rose Chai is a sweet, gentle, lightly spiced chai. It has just a hint of rose water, which wasn’t overpowering. The Sulaimani Chai was a bit stronger on the spice, and wasn’t creamy.

We will definitely return to relax and try some more delicious tea at the Chai Spot in Sedona!
